Local Information

Situated just north of the city of Inverness, the Black Isle with its combination of woodland, farmland and a wild coastline of beaches and cliffs is a popular holiday destination. 

Towns
Its main towns are Fortrose and Cromarty.  Also within very easy reach of Dava are the towns of Dingwall, Beauly and the Victorian spa town of Strathpeffer.  Inverness, the Capital City of the Highlands with its hundreds of shops, cinema, theatre and many excellent restaurants and cafes is only twenty minutes away.

Wildlife
There are dolphins and seals both to the north and south of the Black Isle as well as a wide variety of birds, including red kites.   A little further afield you will find deer, red squirrels and, of course, Highland Cattle.

Culture
There are many places of historical interest, such as the Museums at Inverness, Rosemarkie, Strathpeffer and Cromarty and the Old Priory at Beauly.  There are local festivals throughout the summer, including the Rock Ness Festival in June and the Highland Games in August.

Castles
Within easy reach are the castles of Dunrobin, Cawdor, Urquhart, Brodie and Eilean Donan, where the Film ‘Highlander’ was filmed. 

Sport
For those interested in golf, riding, biking, sailing, angling and, of course, walking this is an ideal location. 

Whisky
The famous Highland Whisky Trail runs to the North, the West and the South of the Black Isle.

Mountains and Scenery
The Cairngorms are just to the South, the West Coast is only an hour away and the Sutherland Mountains boasting Ben Wyvis are just to the North.

Lochs and Sea
Loch Ness with its waterfalls and its Monster lie to the South, the Moray, Beauly and Cromarty Firths surround the Black Isle.  There are stunning beaches at Dornoch to the North and Nairn to the South.
